2016 Annual  Fund

To my fellow Parents and Friends,

Go back in the recesses of your mind (whether it be a year ago for some or six for others) to that bittersweet time referred to as “the selective enrollment process”. If you shudder a little or feel goosebumps that is natural. It was an intense time for our family and, I bet, for yours as well. Do you remember selecting Whitney Young on your Selective Enrollment form? Do you remember the reasons you felt your child could thrive here? Do you remember the sense that your child’s world would open in these halls and create a path with exciting promise?

I suspect your answer to one or all is YES. Together with our students, we chose Whitney Young with the hope that our child would experience high school in a way that would ignite their curiosity and passion. Be it academics, arts, sports, music, or diversity our student was searching for, it was all right here at Whitney Young. Reading the accomplished list of universities and colleges where graduates were headed, we knew there was something unique about this school. We wanted our children to be a part of this special place called Whitney M. Young Magnet High School.

Now, We are Whitney Young. Our students are the ones passing through the halls, competing on top level teams and checkmating their way to national level competitions. Our students are more than a grade. Our students are finding their passions through all of the clubs, teams, arts and extracurricular activities that are available at Whitney Young. Imagine theatre performances without lights, pottery class without a wheel, soccer teams without nets, or the debate team unable to compete. The Friends of Whitney Young Annual Fund provides essential financial support to programs like these that are not funded by CPS.

Join my husband, Sam and me and make your tax-deductible donation to the Annual Fund today. There is not a better cause than our children’s education.

Our goal is to raise $150,000 in the 2016 Annual Fund. You can learn more about what your donation will support and how close we are to achieving our goal by going to www.friendsofwhitneyyoung.org. Please make your tax-deductible donation today here or by check payable to
