The importance of the Annual Fund can best be told through the first hand experiences of the teachers and students. We would like to share with you one of these. Ms. Lisa Wax, Whitney Young teacher and Art Department Chair, relayed a beautiful story on how the Annual Fund allowed her students to have an inclusive and creative experience outside of the classroom.
“Last year in one of my sculpture classes, we had a large number of students with special needs. Quite a few students being profoundly impaired both cognitively and physically. One of these students was Anthony. Along with his classmates, Anthony was able to participate in a field trip to a wheel throwing class at Lillstreet Art Center because of donations made to the Annual Fund. Through the Annual Fund we were able to pay for the class so that all students could take part. Even with Anthony’s profound physical challenges he was able to participate and throw a beautiful bowl, something that is not possible within the classrooms at Whitney Young. The pride and pure joy that Anthony felt radiated throughout the studio that day.”
That is the positive and real impact your Annual Fund dollars have on students at Whitney Young. These are the moments that remind us “We Are Whitney Young“.
